Trustees demand broker cost breakdowns, ask for vendor presentations on April 13
Summary
Board members said committee materials lacked cost detail and asked administration to bring the exact presentations given to the benefits committee and to invite broker representatives (Higginbotham, Gallagher) to explain savings claims and employee impacts at the April 13 workshop.

Several trustees said the employee benefits committee’s summary did not provide enough vendor‑level cost detail to support a near‑term decision, and they requested the exact presentations the committee received and that alternate brokers appear before the full board.
"One of them told us we can save you about $2,000,000, $2,500,000. But we're asking how? They couldn't answer that question," a committee member said about the two brokers that presented to the employee benefit committee. Trustees said they wanted to question vendors directly to understand implementation plans and impacts on employees before authorizing an RFP or contract change.
Staff said an RFP window will open in early April and confirmed an April 13 workshop where staff aim to present the vendor materials and the committee’s full slide decks. Trustees emphasized they want monthly budget reports and vendor cost models so the board can assess tradeoffs between increased district contributions and higher employee out‑of‑pocket costs.
