Little League field contractor seeks later handover; borough targets June 15 turnover and Aug. 15 completion

Tenafly staff told the council the Little League field contractor has been slowed by winter weather and that the borough and the league agreed to new handover dates to preserve the summer season.
Borough Administrator David Novak said the contractor was given notice to proceed Dec. 1 and submitted required submittals, but cold weather days have created delays. "They would be entitled to roughly 20 days credits," Novak said, and winter storms pushed the opening farther into spring. After discussions with league leadership, the league "would prefer to turn this field over to the contractor on June 15 with a hard deadline of August 15," Novak said; staff will include an amended contract item with liquidated-damages language should the contractor exceed the agreed completion date.
Novak added that most materials are in stock and that staff will bring an amendment to the council at the next meeting to formalize the revised schedule and contract terms. The borough indicated it will pursue liquidated-damages protections if the contractor exceeds the revised deadline.
