Tenafly council members selected a mid-size bandstand design for Hyler Park on Feb. 24 after a staff presentation and council discussion about sight lines, noise and trees.
"I really like the idea of having a bandstand in Hyler," one council member said, and the council debated moving the structure slightly to preserve an existing tree. Engineering staff assured the council the structure would not interfere with traffic: "I am never gonna build anything that's gonna interfere with traffic," the town's engineer said, promising no line-of-sight issues.
Council members agreed to prioritize an elevated structure with sound and TV capability in phase 1 and to add landscaping, lighting and possible noise mitigation in a second phase. The council selected Concept 2 and set final dimension adjustments for staff and the architect to resolve, with the goal of obtaining manufacturer details and starting work if weather and approvals allow.
