The Torrington Board of Finance voted to approve the purchase of a 2004 Ferrera pumper from the New Hartford Fire Department for $80,000, pending approval by the City Council and the Board of Public Safety.
Dan, a Board of Finance member who described the deal, said the truck became available because New Hartford is receiving a new vehicle and the older apparatus was offered through the same vendor Torrington uses. “Within a month, we should have the truck on-site here in Torrington,” he said. The Chair read the vehicle’s condition: 49,981 miles and 791 hours.
A committee member pressed whether near-term maintenance would require unexpected spending; Dan replied the vehicle has been serviced by the same company the city uses and is “fully up to spec” with low miles and no rust on the frame. The board approved the motion by voice vote with no recorded opposition. The purchase is pending the other required approvals before the city takes possession.
Details: price $80,000; seller: New Hartford Fire Department; status: approved by the Board of Finance, pending City Council and Board of Public Safety approvals.
