The Department of Public Health official said DPH is targeting high-risk populations to reduce overdose deaths, including people recently released from jail or prison and people who inject drugs.
"We are reaching out to the high risk populations, such as people who have been recently released from correctional facilities, prison and jail, making sure that they are, staying on their opioid use disorder treatment," the official said, and added DPH is working with syringe services programs to provide naloxone training and harm-reduction education.
The official also said DPH is partnering with providers on pain-management training, working with Planned Parenthood to screen and welcome people at wellness visits because of risks to pregnant women and those of childbearing age, and encouraging EMS providers to leave naloxone behind after nonfatal overdoses, noting protocols in Trumbull and East Lyme.
The official handed the presentation to a local speaker for Hartford-area perspectives.
