Mayor says North Riverside addresses were wrongly billed Riverside's 5% amusement tax on streaming services

Mayor Joseph Mangoni told the board that trustees and staff discovered through social media that some North Riverside addresses had been incorrectly assessed Riverside's 5% amusement tax on streaming services and that he had contacted Riverside's village president and board seeking a remedy and refunds.
"Trustees and I learned through social media that North Riverside residents were incorrectly assessed Riverside's 5% amusement tax on streaming services," Mangoni said, and asked residents and businesses to review subscription bills and to report affected addresses to the village office so staff can pursue refunds. The mayor said village staff will keep a record of reported addresses and assist residents in resolving incorrect billing.
The announcement came as part of the mayoral report; Mangoni also noted other program dates and outreach items. The village did not announce a formal remedy or a timeline for refunds during the meeting; residents were instructed to call the village office to report billing errors and provide their addresses. No vote was taken on the matter at this meeting.
