District shows gains in reading and lower sixth‑grade math performance, LSG says

A Learning Support Group presenter reviewed benchmark 2 STAR results and told trustees the district has made measurable progress in reading and some math grades while noting areas that need more attention. The presenter said 4th grade math meet performance was 42% (target 44%) and 5th grade improved from 37% to 41%; 6th grade math declined from 29% to 27% and is off track for a 39% target.
On reading, the presenter said the district saw larger gains: 4th grade reading rose to 53% meets (target 50) and several campuses surpassed year‑end goals. The presenter credited full fidelity to the Bluebonnet math adoption, consistent lesson rehearsal in PLCs, targeted interventions and coordinated walkthroughs for improvements, and said Region 1 support and a recently awarded LIP grant will bolster middle‑school PD and coaching.
Trustees asked for concrete next steps for 6th grade math and supports for special education students, where some subgroups showed declines. The presenter recommended adjustments to the assessment calendar, intensified PD this summer, increased data‑driven walkthroughs, and continued focus on tiered supports for special populations.
"We are saying we are on track to meeting our targets," the presenter said about some grades. On 6th grade math, the presenter cautioned: "We are not on track just because their time period... a 12 jump is a lot," and promised follow‑up analysis and targeted supports.
