The Marion City Council adopted ordinance 26‑08, amending chapter 3.13 of the Marion Code of Ordinances to establish regulations, enforcement procedures and infrastructure standards for electric vehicle charging stations. Council members voted to advance the ordinance through initial, second and final readings in one meeting by suspending the usual rules.
Council members asked how the city would notify and educate the community about the new locations and any associated fees. A staff member said the city would use a press release and its ordinary channels: "Amber was actually working with the mayor on a press release" and the city would use Messenger and social media for outreach. The ordinance passed by voice vote after motions to suspend rules and proceed to second and final consideration.
