Council hears request for two new officers and planning for police department expansion

City staff told the council that public safety is a top budget priority and that the police department has requested two additional officer positions plus funding related to design work for an expanded police department and City Hall building. "The Police Department has requested 2 new police officer positions in addition to the vacancies that remain," Nicole Schneider said during the workshop.
Schneider also noted an Administrative Lieutenant vacancy and that recruitment for the Assistant Chief position is underway. Staff emphasized that while design costs are included in planning, actual construction costs and any related debt service for the PD expansion are intentionally excluded from the presented 2025 draft and will be brought forward to council separately for consideration.
