The Select Board voted Aug. 5 to fund a Title 5 septic inspection for the West Townsend Reading Room and to authorize the West Townsend Reading Room Committee to approve completion of that inspection. Town staff said the inspection would be paid from the reading-room line item in the town budget and that the committee may decide next steps after receiving the inspector's report.
Town staff explained the work and timing: "Our treasurer/collector believes she needs about 60 to 70 or so days to get it organized, prepared," a staff speaker said in the meeting while discussing timing for related auction and property work. The TA and committee clarified typical Title 5 practice: inspectors often pump a tank first and then inspect to determine whether a distribution box or leach field needs repair. The board approved the motion by roll call, with three board members recorded as voting yes.
