The Franklin Historic Commission recommended on Aug. 5 that village council approve a demolition permit for 32875 Wing Lake Road, with the commission noting the property is outside the historic-district boundary and is not a contributing structure.
Mark Adler of Mark Adler Homes said the firm submitted a tree survey and that a number of trees fall within the building footprint. "Number 78 is a black walnut," Adler said while describing the tree schedule and map on the site plan. He said some trees will be removed because they are within the new building footprint, and that the schedule and site plan identify which trees are to be retained and which will be removed.
Commission members confirmed the house dates (discussion referenced 1954) and that it lies outside the district; members generally agreed the structure did not warrant an exception to preservation rules. After brief discussion about tree preservation and documentation, a commissioner moved to recommend the demolition application be forwarded to village council; the commission voted to recommend the application as presented.
The commission’s recommendation will be placed on the village council agenda for final action.
