The Franklin Historic Commission on Aug. 5 recommended that the village council approve a demolition permit for 32361 Scenic Lane, with a condition that as many trees as possible be preserved.
Greg Oliver of Templeton Building Company, the contractor present, told the commission removal of interior trim and asbestos remediation had already been performed and that wells and septic tanks had been temporarily capped and pumped. "We've done all the remediation," Oliver said, confirming the demolition will focus on the structure and that crews do not intend to take down trees during demolition.
Commission members said the property does not appear to be a contributing historic resource and is outside the historic-district boundary. Members asked about plans for the driveway and whether trees would be preserved; Oliver said driveway removal would be part of the demolition scope but reiterated the contractor’s intent to retain existing trees where feasible. After discussion, a motion was made and seconded to recommend approval to village council and to include a recommendation to preserve tree canopy in future plans.
The commission recorded the recommendation for village council consideration; the council holds final approval authority.
