Commissioner volunteers to engage on Metro racial-justice convening; chair urges caution about optics

Commissioners discussed a request from Cameron Whitton, identified in the roundtable as CEO of Brown Hope, asking Metro to convene a regional conversation on racial justice. Chair Harrington said she had met with Whitton and that Metro had not provided a concrete proposal: "He was not aware of any [Metro council] action or communication on this," Harrington said, urging the board to wait for details before committing official representation.
One commissioner volunteered to participate as an individual and said they had told Metro they could participate personally but not speak for the board. Harrington and others expressed concern about optics during an election cycle and recommended any commissioner volunteering make it clear they were not representing the board. County staff said Metro currently had no framework and asked to be notified once Metro developed a plan so staff could evaluate capacity, timing and desired outcomes.
