During two interactive activities, presenters urged attendees to identify and present transferable skills gained in nontraditional roles. Using a hypothetical sales associate named Rachel, Ashley Leger solicited answers like "customer service," "conflict resolution," "communication," and "inventory" as valuable skills applicants can claim on applications.
Leger also explained how competency-based supplemental questions work: applicants are first asked to rate their skill level on a competency and then to explain that rating in a follow-up question. She told attendees that reviewing competencies listed on job postings helps determine whether a role is a good fit and how to prepare application responses.
