Waller Independent School District trustees voted unanimously Nov. 14 to authorize staff to apply for the Learning Acceleration Support Opportunities (LASO) Cycle 3 grants, pursuing the Strong Foundations Implementation pathway and the School Improvement PLC Supports pathway.
Director of State and Federal Programs Amy Carranza told the board the district will seek technical assistance to implement Texas Open Education Resource instructional materials for K–8 math and supports for Professional Learning Communities. Carranza said, “If we are awarded, the full eligible amount for both grants is $700,000 to our district to help support math curriculum from March 2025 until August 31, 2026.” Secretary Jeff Flukinger moved to approve pursuing the grant and Trustee Brittany Neel seconded; the motion carried 7-0-0.
The district packet describes the two LASO pathways as providing technical assistance for OER implementation and targeted PLC supports for campuses identified under federal accountability. No final award has been announced; if awarded, staff will return with implementation details and timelines tied to the grant period.
