The Parks Board approved a phone-service contract for the Otis elevator after staff and the city's IT director reviewed vendor options and concluded the current phone system is no longer supported.
Staff said the recommended Otis service includes a $60 monthly monitoring fee and a $2,000 component; the vendor is rolling out a new digital system and IT advised there were no cheaper in-house options. "Having this phone service is a requirement of operating an elevator in the state of Indiana," staff told the board, which approved the contract and noted the agreement auto-renews annually unless the city cancels within 90 days of renewal.
Board members asked whether other vendors could provide the service and noted that a lack of market alternatives contributed to the recommendation; staff said Otis is the vendor used broadly and that the city can cancel if necessary.
