Waxahachie ISD board approves switch to Bluebonnet Learning for K–5 math; LASO 3 grant application authorized

The Waxahachie Independent School District Board of Trustees on Dec. 9 voted 5–1 to adopt Bluebonnet Learning as the district's K–5 mathematics curriculum and authorized staff to apply for a LASO 3 grant in conjunction with the state's Open Educational Resources rollout.
Trustee Debbie Timmermann made the motion to approve the curriculum change and the LASO 3 grant application; Trustee Kim Kriegel seconded. The motion passed with five trustees in favor and one opposed — Trustee Adrian Cooper recorded the lone vote against the measure. Public comments earlier in the meeting included remarks about the district's curriculum options: Andrew White spoke in open forum on the subject of the Amplify and Bluebonnet curriculum, and Gretchen Gray spoke about success she has seen in students using Amplify.
