District reports growth in co-taught kindergarten after Special Education adjustments

District Special Education staff presented an update on Dec. 10 describing adjustments to the Special Education delivery model implemented this school year. Dr. Bryce Day and Kyle Anderson said the district added special classes at several schools, expanded co-taught kindergarten offerings, and implemented systems to track student outcomes that show growth.
Board members discussed teacher experience and training needs, noting many special education teachers are early in their careers and that limited funding constrains the district’s ability to provide more training and support. The board heard that when teachers have more experience, co-taught classes function more effectively; staff said next year those co-taught kindergarten classes will be expanded to serve additional qualifying students.
The district will continue to collect outcomes data and report back to the board during subsequent meetings as expansions are planned and implemented.
