Riverlink staff updated the Land Conservation Advisory Board on the Gateway Park parcel on Riverside Drive, saying crews completed extensive invasive-species removal and uncovered large quantities of concrete during clearing. "We've done some extensive invasive removal," said Anthony Knight, the board's farmland conservation staff, who described the cleared parcel adjacent to Pearson Bridge and French Broad Outfitters as moving into the planning and design phase.
Knight said the site will enter a planning and design phase with the goal of opening in late summer or early fall next year. He noted the clearing exposed unexpected material — calling out the amount of concrete removed — and asked board members to visit the site if they are in the area. The update included a request to spread annual rye grass to stabilize bare soil and an invitation for board members to take part in next steps for park design and community outreach.
