A school-safety update described continued Sheriff’s Office support for the county’s schools: school resource officers currently cover eight schools, conduct daily traffic control and provide security at events, and the office is offering ALICE and active-shooter response training for faculty ahead of the school year.
"Starting this week, we're handling the active shooter response for law enforcement... Both the sheriff's office and the town police departments should all be on the same page on how we respond to an incident that occurs at the school," said Jenny Kopp, team of special operations, who is coordinating training and instructor materials for each school.
The SRO supervisor (Sergeant Beeb) listed assigned deputies by school and noted a suite of community programs — youth camps, women's self-defense classes and holiday giveaways — intended to strengthen engagement between deputies and students. The office asked the board to consider formal support or attendance; multiple supervisors thanked staff for the cross-agency training and stressed the importance of keeping faculty and students aligned on response procedures.
