Council approved contracting with GHD to conduct soil sampling and a risk assessment at the Shaw Avenue disposal site as part of EPA five-year review requirements.
Staff explained GHD will collect 16 soil samples and analyze potential exposures for recreational trail users, commercial and industrial workers, construction workers and trespassers. The total cost of the work is $46,150; staff said the city has a cost-share agreement with Zoetis that reduces the city's portion to $23,075.
Council members asked about the duration of the remediation and the history of contamination; staff said the contamination dates to the 1970s and the site has been under periodic EPA oversight for decades. The resolution to approve the work was moved, seconded and adopted on roll call.
