Commissioner Whitfield moved, and the commission voted, to give the county attorney authority to negotiate with the city regarding contested annexations in the Dry Valley Road and James Ridge areas.
Commissioners described the county’s position that some of the recent annexations appear to be noncontiguous and therefore procedurally improper, and they asked the attorney to attempt negotiation before initiating litigation. "Our position is that it is a noncontiguous annexation," a commissioner said during the discussion.
Commissioners emphasized they were asking the attorney to explore options, not immediately file suit; if Bowman cannot reach agreement, he was directed to return to the commission for further direction. The motion carried.
