North Tonawanda committee backs making city attorney a mayoral appointee

"The what is to move the position of City Attorney from an elected position to a position appointed by the Mayor with Common Council approval. The why is to create a more unified government and avoid potential conflicts of interest," DalPorto told the committee, after which he requested a roll-call vote. The minutes record the roll call as returning unanimous yeas, with no nays or abstentions.
A motion to accept the proposal as drafted was made and seconded; the meeting minutes show inconsistent entries for who moved and seconded the motion (the minutes list Kate Wistner in one place and Heather Farley in another as making the motion; Darlene Bolsover is listed as second in one entry and appears as "Donna Bolsover" in another). The committee recorded the motion as passed and the minutes state the change would take effect Jan. 1, 2027.
Secretary Susan Gosch Taylor read a formal resolution dated August 3, 2026 memorializing the committee's recommendation, and Chairman DalPorto signed the resolution. The committee then adjourned at approximately 9:15 a.m.
The minutes list ten committee members present for the meeting and two members absent. The record names Mayor Austin Tylec and several other attendees as present but does not indicate they voted. The minutes do not state any public comment on the proposal or any formal dissent during discussion.
