Mineral Point USD clerk verifies candidates, draws lots to set ballot order

Will Harris, clerk for the Mineral Point Unified School District, verified the candidate declarations and confirmed that required campaign registration statements had been filed before Jan. 7, 2025, during a public verification meeting at the district office on Jan. 8, 2025, at 5:30 p.m.

"The Clerk proceeded to publicly check the declarations filed and announced the names as he reviewed the declarations and found them satisfactory," the minutes state. The Deputy Clerk presented proof of public notice at the start of the meeting, and Harris reviewed each declarant's campaign registration statement and announced that the statements were sufficient, properly signed and timely filed.

At Harris's request, Mitch Wainwright conducted a drawing of lots under the Clerk's supervision to determine the order in which candidates' names will appear on the ballot. The parties doing the drawing reviewed the procedures and used a certification instrument provided by the Clerk; upon completion they filled in and signed the certificates and filed them with the Clerk. Harris then announced the sequence of names as drawn and completed and signed the Verification of Candidates form.

The minutes state the certificate of the drawing and the verification are incorporated into the minutes and that the record of the drawing of lots and the verification will be filed with the School Elections Records kept by the Clerk. No objections to name designations or declarations were recorded in the minutes.
