Student speakers and teams earn recognition; district highlights programs
Summary
A ninth-grader won local and county oratorical contests and will compete at district level; the high school ice-fishing team qualified for state. Principals reported on testing, reading plans and a Character Strong grant program.
The meeting included several positive student updates. Alexandra Peterson, a ninth-grade student, won at the local and county levels in the American Legion Oratorical Speaking Contest and is scheduled to compete at the district level in Spooner in February. Robert Stone, the American Legion representative, thanked the district for hosting the Veterans Day program.
Sheri Kopka, the 9–12 principal, also reported that the high school ice-fishing team qualified for state competition. Betsy Miller, the 4K–5 principal and special-education director, updated the board on Act 20 testing, individual reading plans, and a Character Strong program supported by a grant from Rusk County Human Services.
