Audit shows 13% water loss; city hires M.E. Simpson for further leak detection

City Administrator Adam Jasinski told the committee the city’s annual water-loss audit — which counts unbilled volumes such as municipal buildings and irrigation — returned a 13% water loss this year. "The EPA wants you to be under 10%. This year’s audit resulted in a 13% water loss," Jasinski said.
Jasinski said the city has difficulty pinpointing leaks because billing is quarterly; the city brought in M.E. Simpson to assist and the consultant located two leaks, including one under a tree that the city plans to repair after removing the tree. The committee approved payment to M.E. Simpson Co., Inc. for Leak Location Services in the amount of $14,100.00; Chairman Brennan moved the authorization and Alderman Key seconded it, and the motion passed unanimously by voice vote.
Jasinski said the city will bring M.E. Simpson in for an additional day of detection work as staff continue strategic searches for other leaks. No schedule or estimated recovered volume was provided at the meeting.
