County staff presented a memo recommending the board enter a three-year agreement with Dickinson County to provide medical-examiner services. The current arrangement began April 11, 2025, and the proposed contract would extend services through a new three-year period under an attached fee schedule.
Commissioners said the earlier transition to Dickinson County has stabilized services after a prior contract dispute and that the proposed agreement contains a 90-day mutual termination clause. Commissioner Newman moved to adopt the contract and the board approved it; the board then took a separate roll-call vote to appoint Dickinson County's chief medical examiner under a resolution. "This was a monumental step because, again, we're a big county and they cleaned this up," one commissioner said in support of the contract.
