Sheriff's office reports 78 inmates, 299 calls for service in March

Detective Jason Hart presented the Marquette County Sheriff's Office's monthly statistics for March, reporting 78 inmates lodged in the county facility, 20 inmates boarded out and seven federal inmates on the roster. He said 14 inmates were classified as homeless, meaning they listed a shelter as their address, and that the department had processed 299 calls for service in March leading to 54 case reports.

Commissioners discussed trends across months: warrant entries decreased from 64 in January to 40 in March and protective orders reported fell from 30 to 12 during the same period; handgun registrations rose from 142 to 177. Hart and commissioners noted state support filling inspection gaps in other contexts and offered to expand the statistics provided to clarify counts that remain at the prosecutor's office. "We have 78 members, inmates lodged in our facility," Hart reported when he began his summary of March figures.

Commissioners asked clarifying questions about the data, virtual-inspection options for code enforcement and whether some increases or decreases were seasonal. Hart said staff could provide additional breakdowns for prosecutor filings and other pending reports if the board desired.
