At the June 9 budget workshop, district staff reported the Willacy County Appraisal District provided certified preliminary taxable values showing an increase from $356,465,584 to $366,715,855, a 2.9% rise.
David Longoria, the district chief financial officer, presented an estimated tax-rate range of $0.98 to $1.05 per $100 of assessed valuation and announced a public meeting on the tax rate will be held in September. Longoria reminded the board that the district is required to adopt a tax rate by Sept. 30.
Staff said the figures are preliminary and depend on final certified values and other calculations; the workshop presentation was informational and did not include a final tax-rate vote.
