Staff presented a resolution authorizing the sale of several narrow UDOT parcels along the I‑15 frontage road that are required for the highway widening project. Staff said the parcels include landscaping and irrigation that UDOT will pay for and that other park improvements tied to the project remain to be negotiated; staff provided preliminary improvement estimates and per‑square‑foot offers.
Staff reported rough figures, including an estimate for improvements in the neighborhood of $1,000,000 and said UDOT offered $8 per square foot for some frontage parcels but $62 per square foot for the skate-park parcel. "Our figures came back about 1,000,000 dollars, I think, is what Chad and I presented to them," staff said. The council discussed trade-offs — cash versus land trades UDOT offered — then a motion to approve the resolution was made, seconded, and the council voted unanimously to adopt the resolution.
Councilmembers asked staff to continue negotiations on improvements and to provide final numbers as talks with UDOT progress.
