Superintendent highlights construction progress, Homecoming events and student competition wins

Brenda Sanford, superintendent of Red Oak Independent School District, briefed the board on construction and recent district activities at the Oct. 21 meeting.

Regarding facilities, Dr. Thurston Lamb, the district’s chief operations officer, provided an update on progress at the new Dr. Joy Shaw Middle School. The minutes record a construction status update but do not list specific milestones or dates.

Sanford reported competitive achievements by career and technical education students: masonry students competed at the Ennis Bricklayer Invitational, with Elena Osiier placing first, David Valdez placing third, and Carys Dugan earning a "toughest tender" award; Elena and David qualified for the Bricklayer 500 competition and placed second in the state. Sanford also announced a Senior Citizen Luncheon on Nov. 14 at the Red Oak Government Center and invited community members aged 60 and older to attend.
