Natomas Unified presents first-iteration instructional framework, outlines phased rollout

Associate Superintendent Tanya Gerald presented the districts first-iteration instructional framework and described how it will function as a blueprint for teaching and learning across grade spans. Gerald said the document "is made up in 24, 25 of these components" and that it will be used alongside the districts assessment calendar and tiered interventions such as Read 180 and Math 180.

Gerald told trustees the framework is organized by grade spans (TK-2, 3-5, 6-8, 9-12) and includes rationale notes and implementation frequency for assessments so teachers and administrators can understand purpose and sequence. She said the framework will be revised with teacher and administrator feedback during the year and noted a related timeline: the district aims to publish an approved math publisher list in November 2025, which will inform a 2025-26 math adoption and subsequent updates to the framework.

Trustees asked how teacher leaders will be selected and about assessment tools at the high school level; Gerald described teacher leaders as an informal, site-determined role that can be filled by both new and veteran teachers and said high schools use IXL diagnostics while the district uses I-Ready data to inform LEAP Academy interventions. Gerald emphasized that the framework is a working document and will be refined as staff provide feedback.
