A request to hold a back-to-school park party was approved after a brief public hearing in which Abigail Malatesta, who gave her address as 2218 48th Street, described the event and said it is the group’s second year running.
"It's our 2nd year...It's just to celebrate with our students and especially with our campuses coming together," Malatesta said, adding that organizers want to ensure they follow the correct permitting procedures because of the school population size. Commissioners moved to approve the request by voice vote and the motion carried.
The approval allows organizers to secure any required permits from parks staff and to coordinate on any site logistics ahead of the event.
