Parent urges district to add student ID/lanyards for field trips after observing gaps

Giovanna Abrucese, a parent of five Natomas Unified students, urged the board to require identifying tags for children on district field trips, saying she has seen students without lanyards, name tags or medical indicators and that absence of such identification poses a safety risk.
"They don't have anything to identify the children. Like, they don't have lanyards. They don't have name tags. They don't have nothing that identifies them, like, what school district they're from," Abrucese said. She said her children have medical conditions such as asthma and that having visible indicators helps staff and volunteers quickly assist or reunite a child who is lost or unable to speak. Abrucese said she has notified a principal but still sees no change on trips she has attended.
Board members thanked the speaker for raising the concern; staff did not announce a specific policy change during the meeting.
