Mayor Valerie Amezcua opened the 2026 State of the City at Templo Calvario by urging a forward-looking approach focused on long-term investments in infrastructure, public spaces and services. "We are creating a modern interconnected city that serves everyone," she said, framing the year's work as preparation "for the next 5 years, 10 years and towards the next generation of Santa Ana families." The mayor thanked city staff, the Santa Ana Chamber of Commerce and event sponsors and noted an emphasis on partnerships with schools and labor groups.
The program combined a brief mayoral address with a moderated panel featuring City Manager Alvaro Nunez and Police Chief Robert Rodriguez. Panel moderator Steve Chermbeck said the event would cover quality of life, economic development and infrastructure, technology, and teamwork. Amezcua closed by thanking her chief of staff Cynthia Contreras and executive assistant Sue Mills and urged continued collaboration: "Every investment that we make and every decision that we take reflects our responsibility to leave this city stronger, more prosperous, and better prepared for the next generation."
