Police Chief Ciszewski told the Hobart City Council that on May 31 Officer Zormier and a nearby resident, Mr. Bernard, entered a smoke-filled residence and rescued four children and one adult.
"Officer Zormier will be receiving a lifesaving effort award next year at the District One Law Enforcement Awards," Chief Ciszewski said, and Mr. Bernard "is receiving Citizen Commendation Award." A family member addressed the meeting to thank both rescuers for saving his nieces and nephews.
The council recorded the recognition during its June 17 meeting and presented the citizen commendation to Mr. Bernard. The acknowledgment places the department and the community on record for the May rescue and signals formal recognition at the district awards next year.
