Several commissioners asked staff to identify potential candidate locations in Johns Creek and expressed concern about the impacts on immediate neighbors if a vertiport were located adjacent to residential properties.
One commissioner said, "If I'm that lucky neighbor, my property values are gonna take a pretty significant hit," urging staff to anticipate such concerns in the Council presentation. Staff responded that it is too early to identify exact sites, that many commercially zoned parcels are small and redevelopment opportunities limited, and that viability will depend on FAA approvals, frequency of flights and the nature of the development (standalone vertiport versus rooftop/parking-deck installations).
Staff also noted potential beneficial uses including medical transport and cargo logistics but said no operator or applicant has submitted a local proposal and that the amendment is an early-stage framework meant to allow assessment when applications arrive.
