Johns Creek schedules boardwalk grand opening May 8; tunnel targeted for July 3 celebration

City Manager Greer updated the council on the Boardwalk project and several major public-works initiatives at the April 20 meeting. Greer said the Boardwalk grand opening will be timed with the first summer concert on May 8, with a ribbon cutting between an opening act and the main stage, and that staff aims to complete the pedestrian tunnel before the city's July 3 Independence Day celebration.
"So our boardwalk grand opening is going to kick off with the 1st summer concert of the year. So May 8, we'll have that opening act..." Greer said, describing a phased opening that removed construction fencing on March 18 and has seen the park in frequent public use. Residents and councilors praised the park's connectivity to adjacent buildings and hotels and highlighted lighting and rail features that make the park attractive at night.
Greer also updated the council on other construction projects, including bridge and utility work on Abbotts Bridge, Johns Creek Parkway raised intersection installation, and ongoing utility tie-ins for multiple corridor projects. He said the city is implementing technology to improve public reporting on projects and financials and offered to follow up with the finance director to refine reporting formats.
