During the April 21 meeting the board recognized a range of student achievements across athletics and academics.
Junior high track standout Brenden Boyd was noted for four first-place finishes (high jump, triple jump, 110m hurdles and 300m hurdles). The Rockdale High School girls soccer team earned 4th place in district and scored the program’s first playoff appearance; coaches Shirley Rodriguez and Gilberto Rodriguez were thanked. Powerlifting regional qualifiers and the single state qualifier Shelly Segovia were acknowledged, and UIL Academic competitors who placed in district events were listed, with Alvan Liu and Caroline Jayamaha advancing to regionals.
Assistant Superintendent Tiffany Whitsel called out staff contributions including coaches Eric Willard and Wendy Lueckemeyer and support staff such as athletic trainer Ashlee Camp. The board’s public recognition highlights both athletic and academic student achievement ahead of spring campus events including RHS graduation on May 30.
