Members of Girl Scout troop 22167 told the council about a year-long bronze-award project to honor Military Working Dogs and invited the public and the council to a formal dedication at Johns Creek Veterans Memorial Park. Troop leader Julie Todd introduced the project and troop members described researching, fundraising and community outreach that led to a permanent bronze monument.
Madeline Pittman said the project "was born from a simple goal to ensure that every hero who fought for our freedom on two legs or four is recognized in our community." Elizabeth Pasek invited the council to stand with the troop for the dedication on Saturday, May 23 at 10 a.m. The council and several members publicly thanked the scouts and volunteers for their work during announcements.
Why it matters: the project is a youth-led civic effort that adds a dedicated public recognition for military working dogs to a city memorial site and includes a formal city dedication.
