The Kenosha Board of Water Commissioners approved a resolution to accept the State of Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources' exercise of an option to purchase a parcel directly south of the wastewater treatment plant.
The director told commissioners the parcel is encumbered by wetlands and floodplain constraints that have limited developability and that the DNR proposal includes shoreline revetment along the parcel frontage to protect an outfall pipe serving the wastewater plant. "The actual purchase price that was agreed upon before was $280,002.08," the director said, and staff added that partnering with the DNR could secure funding for what might otherwise be a nearly $10,000,000 shoreline protection project.
Staff recommended approval and commissioners voted to adopt the resolution. The meeting record does not include subsequent permitting or construction details; the DNR's involvement was described as providing shoreline protection funding and implementation rather than a utility-led construction plan.
