Natomas Unified honors local writer Nick Lazido with CSBA Golden Quill Award

The Natomas Unified Board of Trustees recognized Sacramento freelance sportswriter Nick Lazido as the 2024 CSBA Golden Quill Award winner for in‑depth coverage of local high‑school athletics.
A district presenter praised Lazido’s reporting on Natomas teams and his work chronicling the 2023–24 Natomas High School boys basketball season. "Mr. Lazido created Natomas Seasons Dream, a series chronicling the 2023–24 Natomas High School boys basketball team," the presenter said. Lazido thanked coaches and school staff for access and support: "I just want to thank...for giving the opportunity to cover these teams and for everyone who takes a part in putting on these athletic events and long hours." Trustees and staff joined Lazido and principal and coaches for a photo and presented a certificate, plaque and a signed team basketball.
The recognition highlighted the district’s relationship with local media and the role of sports coverage in community engagement.
