Superintendent Castillo and district staff presented a data spotlight and launched a newly branded Office of Excellence and Equity and an updated Umoja webpage intended to centralize programs, resources and equity work across Natomas Unified.
"We are very excited to continue the conversation...to support all of our students in Natomas Unified," Superintendent Castillo said, describing implementation of I‑Ready assessments in K–8, Springboard Collaborative literacy interventions and attention to AP/IB participation. The presentation highlighted graduation‑rate trends for major student groups, noted growth in proficiency and identified chronic absenteeism and suspension reductions at several campuses.
Principal on assignment Maurice Goss previewed the new website and described the office’s role in organizing existing programs. "We have all of our data here...they were very appreciative," Goss said, pointing trustees and the public to the district’s online data dashboard. Staff noted the site will include program descriptions, family engagement resources and staff professional development links.
Trustees praised the spotlight while stressing that success requires understanding "why" gains are occurring. Trustee Grant said the presentation showed "good and bad and ugly" — the district will publish the slides and data online the day after the meeting. The board emphasized the work is ongoing and directed staff to continue monitoring program implementation and outcomes.
Next steps: the district indicated slides and supporting data will be posted publicly; the Office of Excellence and Equity will continue outreach and report on equity measures at future board meetings.
