Keene honors resident Cody Rado with Civilian Valor Award after attempted abduction intervention

The Keene Police Department presented the Civilian Valor Award on Aug. 6 to Cody Rado for stepping in during an attempted abduction July 15 and providing information that led investigators to identify and arrest a suspect. Chief Kidd told the council that Rado “confronted the suspect” and followed him while others secured the juvenile victim.
“This is a perfect example that the security for our city and safety of our city is a shared, it’s a shared responsibility,” Chief Kidd said, announcing the department’s recognition and thanking Rado’s family. He said the suspect was charged with attempted kidnapping and robbery following investigators’ work using information Rado supplied.
Mayor (addressing the honoree) praised Rado’s actions as “very, very brave.” The award citation presented at council recognized “exceptional courage and decisive action in coming to the aid of a juvenile during an attempted abduction on 07/15/2026.” The council offered its thanks during the meeting’s opening segment.
