San Elizario ISD board authorizes protest of alcohol permit application near middle school

After returning from closed session, Board President Eduardo Chavez said the district would submit a letter to contest an alcohol permit application within 300 feet of Ann M. Garcia-Enriquez Middle School and would request that the City Council consider an ordinance restricting businesses within that buffer.
The board authorized a formal protest and directed district administration and legal counsel to move forward with protest measures discussed in closed session. "Motion to approve protest of TABC Alcohol Permit application within 300ft of Ann M. Garcia-Enriquez Middle School due to reason of public safety and other reasons discussed in closed session and authorize district administration and legal counsel to move forward with protest and additional measures as discussed in closed session," the record states. The motion, made by Trustee Guadalupe Caro and seconded by Trustee Myrna Hernandez, passed.
