Residents press for written safety plan as commercial haul trucks damage Granite Road

Commercial hauling operations on Granite Road prompted residents to request stronger oversight and a formal traffic management plan from the county. Contractor Gary Martin described mitigation steps already taken — assigning a different driver, offering handheld radios to nearby residents and volunteering to donate convex mirrors for blind corners — and said Granite Resources remained committed to working with the County and residents to improve safety.

Resident Andrew Hinkle pressed the commission to require a written safety plan that would address operating procedures and road‑maintenance responsibilities, saying he believed the haul trucks were damaging the roadway and needed immediate action. County Attorney Blaine Bradshaw advised the board that "the Commission could require a written operational safety plan in their discretion," and that parties causing extraordinary damage would be responsible for repairs. Commissioners agreed to inspect the roadway and continue coordinating with residents and the operator.
