Residents press trustees over village worker's second job, insurance and hours

At the Jan. 13 meeting several residents questioned policy around a village employee, known in discussion as Mark, who also works full time for Taylorville. Anthony Pezze asked why the village pays the employee’s insurance in full when the person also has a second employer, proposing cost-sharing or a wage adjustment: "If we are going to pay all of his insurance then we need to cut wages to the price of the insurance, half of it and then the employer in Taylorville can pay half," Pezze said.

Mayor Morris and Treasurer Beverly spoke to the issue: Morris said he thought both employers shared insurance costs, but Beverly contradicted that recollection, saying "no, we paid full." Residents and trustees also discussed long hours and the burden of a second job on availability for local duties, with Steve Brown noting that an eighty-hour combined workweek could be unsustainable and suggesting the board ask the employee for a timeline about his future commitments.

Trustees did not adopt an immediate policy change at the meeting; Attorney Rahar offered to follow up with Beverly and the auditors to clarify legal and payroll obligations. The discussion was recorded as a request for staff to provide details rather than an enacted personnel policy change.
