Resident seeks temporary exception to leave storage container on sidewalk after garage explosion

Gerald Veach told the Village of Kincaid committee he wants permission to leave a storage container parked partly on a sidewalk while he rebuilds his garage after an explosion.
"I had an explosion in my garage, the garage is totaled," Veach said, explaining he placed the container there to load belongings and cannot lift or move it without unloading everything. He said he is waiting on an insurance check and will need to break out concrete, pour a new foundation and rebuild the garage before he can remove the container.
Trustee Lawrence responded that the board could not vote on the request at this meeting but noted the village has an ordinance that allows emergency container placement for up to 45 days. Lawrence asked that the matter be placed on the next meeting agenda so the board can consider formal permission. Mayor Robert Morris raised a concern that the container is sitting across the sidewalk.
Veach said he tried to raise the container with a forklift but could not because it is too full and that freezing weather may lengthen rebuilding time beyond the 45-day window. Trustees asked staff to place the item on the next regular meeting agenda for formal consideration and possible temporary permission.
