Resident asks why village didn't solicit bids for Springfield Street demolition

Clare Duran told trustees that at the last meeting officials said a contractor had been contracted to take down a house on Springfield Street but had not been able to perform the work yet. She asked, "How much was the bid that they put in for it, because I know that you guys have a cap on eight thousand dollars and that is with everything." Mayor Morris said he believed the total was about $8,500 for the whole job and said he thought under-$10,000 work does not require competitive bids.
Resident Gary Daum asked why the village couldn't use its own equipment instead of contracting the work. Trustees said they would clarify procurement rules and the bidding process; no vote or contract approval occurred at the committee meeting.
The board did not finalize next steps at the Dec. 23 session but indicated staff would provide additional information about bids, caps and whether in‑house equipment could be used for the demolition.
