Conservation committee presses ridgeline protections; committee urges vote for firehouse bond

The Conservation Advisory Committee told the Town Board it is documenting for Bronze Certification, urged enforcement of the Ridgeline Protection and Steep Slopes codes in a Ridgeline appeal, reported progress on EV charger hookups with Central Hudson, and urged residents to support a Marlboro firehouse bond vote on Nov. 25 to bring the building up to OSHA and other regulatory codes.
Mici Simonofsky, chair of the Conservation Advisory Committee, read the CAC's Nov. 24 report to the board. The CAC said it is preparing materials to pursue Bronze Certification and that it participated in a joint meeting with the Zoning Board of Appeals to follow an appeal concerning the Ridgeline; the committee urged that environmental issues — impacts to natural waterways, soil erosion, wildlife habitat and agricultural lands — not be ignored and that the Ridgeline Protection Code and Steep Slopes Code must be obeyed.
Simonofsky also reported she and Supervisor Corcoran met with Central Hudson about electric service to the town's EV chargers and said they hope the chargers will be hooked up by the end of the month. The CAC noted that a term on the Ulster County Environmental Management Council was expiring and the town currently has no nominee. Separately, the CAC urged residents in the Marlboro Fire District to vote on Nov. 25 on a bond to update the firehouse — the committee said improvements are needed to meet OSHA and other regulatory codes and to provide decontamination and gender-friendly facilities for volunteers.
